Order Type
IOC (Immediate-Or-Cancel) — Definition & Example
An order that fills as much as possible immediately and cancels any unfilled remainder.
IOC orders attempt immediate execution and cancel any unfilled portion. Useful when you want a partial fill but don't want resting orders sitting in the book. A subset variant — Fill-Or-Kill (FOK) — requires the entire order to fill immediately or cancel completely with no partial fills.
Example
IOC buy 1000 shares at ₹100 limit. The book has 600 shares offered at ₹100. The IOC fills 600 shares immediately and cancels the unfilled 400.
