Support — Definition & Example

A price level at which buying interest historically exceeds selling pressure — a floor where price tends to bounce.

Support is identified by prior swing lows, accumulation zones, or higher-timeframe pivots where price has reversed upward multiple times. The more times a level holds, the stronger it is — until it breaks, after which it often becomes resistance. Used for entries on bounces or as stop-loss reference for long trades.

Example

NIFTY has bounced from 24300 four times in two weeks, making it strong support. A long entry at 24310 with stop just below 24290 has a tight asymmetric risk-reward if the level holds again.
